ISSUE #5: SLIM THYME

Authored by CD Magazine

CD Magazine, SLAND, and MEET finally sit at the same table. All segments of CD in one magazine. This volume is about picking up every loose piece of our story and snapping it back into place. This volume is about reconnection. It's about identity, expression, and owning the very things people try to use against you. At the center of it all is Slim Tyme, a genre-defying creative whose story threads through music, reinvention, and community.

THE JOURNEY

Slim Tyme’s musical story began unexpectedly when he swapped a flute for a saxophone at age 10 during a school concert in Nigeria. That moment sparked a passion that’s followed him through church bands, boarding school, and across continents. When university introduced him to DJing, a friend challenged him to fuse the two, and it clicked. One sax solo over “Shape of You,” and the blend became his signature style.

What Does Character Defamation Mean to You?

“Sometimes it’s not rumors... it’s assumptions,” he says. “Back in university, a bunch of tall Black guys in a mostly white town? People thought we were intimidating before we ever spoke. That snap judgement is a kind of defamation, even if nobody says it out loud.”

SLAND

SLAND is a brand new section in Character Defamation. SLAND highlights real-life brands that do the same. These are creatives, entrepreneurs, and companies across industries who get questioned for their originality, only to let their work do the talking. In CD5, SLAND makes its debut, telling stories of impact, individuality, and how standing out is the whole point.
